From my vantage point down here in southwest Louisiana, the weather befits my mood. The whole day was cloudy, dreary, and raining, and so was my head…
I listened to a few snippets of the mainstream media breathlessly announcing the installation of Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House of Representatives. And one of the first moves by the new dimmocrat-led House was the discussion of ethics rule changes. Having the dimmocrats discussing ethics is somewhat analogous to discussions of chastity in a whorehouse. There may be spirited discussion and general consensus that it’s a good thing, but nobody in the place is actively practicing it.
Of course, the mainstream media is going along with the charade. After a month of howling about a Republican who chatted up young pages, the message about Louisiana’s own “Dollar Bill” Jefferson, the guy with the $90,000 in his freezer, received no mention
I vouch that the situation in national politics can be laid directly at the feet of the Republican party. In a mere 12 years, they went form “Contract with America” to you can have whatever you want as long as I get re-elected. Fiscal responsibility? Yep, they followed the classic “drunken sailor on shore leave” pattern. Smaller government? Yeah, lets get the Feds involved in telling local school boards how to do business. Fewer laws? Sure! We’ll pass Federal laws so your silly little state laws won’t matter at all. Yep, they looked like dimmocrats, so who really had a choice?
Despite the fact that there are those of us on both ends of the political spectrum who feel strongly about the direction we think the nation needs to take, there’s a vast waffling middle that has to be grabbed, that has to be shown a clear plan, a vision, otherwise they’ll just stumble around like an un-led mob. My Republican party failed to provide a clear vision and leadership, and the mob waffled over to the other side of the aisle.
Now we’ll see the result.
