Surprise!

No joke?!?

<Cue meteorologist rant™>

There you are, five years into a four-year degree into meteorology, which means most of your peers think you study shooting stars.  Diploma in hand, you get a job at a small-market TV station doing the weather, day in,  day out, of ‘partly cloudy with a 20% chance of rain’ which is vague enough to where people think you know what you’re doing.

But you never get a chance to SHINE! Unlike those assholes on the Gulf Coast – no hurricanes.  Tornadoes are unheard of.  But weather models give you a chance.

Not just a ‘cold front’, but a POLAR VORTEX!!!11!

Shine, you little star, you!

Today in History – 5 January

1836 – Davy Crockett arrives in Texas, just in time for the Alamo.

1896 – German physicist Wilhelm Roentgen discovers x-rays after a radiologist bills him three times.

1912 – The 6th All-Russian Conference of the Russian Social Democratic Labour Party (Prague Party Conference) opens. In the course of the conference, Vladimir Lenin and his supporters break from the rest of the party to form the Bolshevik movement. This is happening with the dimmocrat party now as each candidate tries to “out-Left” the others.

1914 – The Ford Motor Company announces an eight-hour workday and a minimum wage of $5 for a day’s labor. The government didn’t do this, FORD did this…

1945
 – Pepe LePew debuts in Warner Brothers cartoon “Odor-able Kitty“.

1945 – The Soviet Union recognizes the new pro-Soviet government of Poland. Of course they did. They hand-picked it. They’d already killed or exiled (to Siberia – same thing as ‘killed’) any Pole who was close to being anti-Soviet, that is, the ones who survived fighting the Germans for six years.

1968 – Alexander Dubcek comes to power: “Prague Spring” begins in Czechoslovakia. Unlike “Arab Spring” this doesn’t employ the quaint tactic of massacring all opposition. The Soviet Union does NOT approve…

1972 – U.S. President Richard Nixon orders the development of a Space Shuttle program. The only ‘shuttle’ the dims want now is the one that brings their “mail-in” votes to the polls.

1976 – The Khmer Rouge proclaim the Constitution of Democratic Kampuchea. To achieve its leftist ideals, they kill 25% of the country. Between outright execution and starvation, 2.5 MILLION people die. This is while we’re “Imagining’ and ‘giving peace a chance’.

1991 – Somali Civil War: The United States Embassy to Somalia in Mogadishu is evacuated by helicopter airlift days after the outbreak of violence in Mogadishu. “We can fix this. Let’s give ’em Minnesota!”

1996 – Hamas bombmaker Yahya Ayyash is killed by an Israeli-planted booby-trapped cell phone. Can you hear me now?
