Big Business: Halliburton and other evils

I’m getting a bit miffed at the Left’s continual slamming of Cheney over Halliburton, like Halliburton is some huge evil and Cheney a dark angel minion…

Let me compare Cheney and Halliburton with John Edwards and the personal injury game.

Halliburton is one HUGE company. They have fingers in a lot of pies. My second wife’s dad was a retiree from Halliburton’s oilfield services. That’s what Halliburton does: they sell services. And they make money doing it. And in making that money, they pay multiple thousands of people a good wage for an honest day’s work. The Halliburton workers in turn raise families, buy homes, pay taxes, in short, Halliburton employees BUILD America. Dick Cheney was an executive of this organization.

Now let’s contrast that with Mr. Edwards chosen profession, personal injury trial lawyer. He may employ a small staff. Good! But what does HE sell? The idea that if you feel injured, you can go after the deepest pockets in the vicinity of your alleged injury. He takes questionable science and half-truths and obtains million-dollar awards from juries who aren’t spending their own money, at least not in their minds. He delivers that money, minus his 30% plus expenses to a client who usually would never see a tenth of that amount in a lifetime of honest labor. And the cost of personal injury awards created by lawyers like Edwards has literally driven many professions into decline. Some doctors refuse to practice medicine in response to ever-increasing insurance premiums caused by Edwards and his ilk.

So let me ask you: Who is the man in the truly honorable profession???
