It’s not MY fault! It’s a disease!

So the pervert/former Republican congressman has gone and checked himself into an alcoholism rehab facilty.

What we have here, folks, is an opportunist. Whatever beliefs he might have held in the past in relation to the ideals that made America great, he’s taken the path to distruction. Faced with the idea of GETTING CAUGHT, he’s taken up the leftist mantra of “it’s not MY fault. It’s __________.” You can fill in the blank yourself: my parents. drugs. alcohol. peer pressure. the Man., etc., etc., ad nauseum.

Three-year-olds do this. Any real parent can tell you. “Bobby, did you knock over the lamp?” “No, momma, Becky MADE me do it!” Of course, a good parent will swat little Bobby on the butt vigorously in the face of this lie, and little Bobby will learn better and go on with life.

Society had progressed past that point. Now we analyze why little Bobby felt the need to knock over the lamp, and why he felt ashamed of lampicide, and what we as parents must be doing wrong to limit Bobby to our pre-conceived notions of having an intact lamp.

So it is with our erstwhile congressman. And to be quite truthful, if it was Teddy Kennedy taking a young lady for a midnight ride, or Gary Studds accosting a teenaged worker, or even (gasp!) Bill Clinton engaging in a little poke and giggle in the Oval Office, we’d presently be reading about how it was merely a distraction from the task at hand. But this guy’s a REPUBLICAN and is therefore held to a higher moral standard, especially by the opposition across the aisle.

Thus it has been always. A senator from Oregon, Bob Packwood, accosts an office worker, and the screams and howls from the Left, including feminists drove him out of office. Bill Cinton diddles an intern, and the event is met by silence from the Left. Teddy Kennedy’s car goes into the water with him and a campaign worker, and Teddy survives. Silence.

Do I think that former congressman Foley should get off free like Clinton or Kennedy? Nope! He should be swinging from the same tree as those two. But it ain’t gonna happen. Only difference? The media won’t give a pass to Foley.
