Out the door at 0635 this morning after knocking over a mug of precious coffee and having to do a second pot. 0900 I walked in to the station in the middle of the state and did a two-hour training session on electrical safety.

1100 – back on the road, headed to my northeast Louisiana station. Time for annual battery testing. We have two banks of batteries, one to provide backup power for the two gas turbines at the station, the other to provide backup power for the station controls. Critical stuff. Need to be tested annually. That was today. Got there at 1330.

1600 – back on the road, headed for central Mississippi. Got battery tests HERE tomorrow. Same deal. Different station. Hit the hotel at 1830, dropped bags, went to eat. Back now. Tired.

We’ll see about tomorrow.

1862 – President Lincoln orders the hanging of 39 Santee Sioux Indians. Can’t be having these people get freedom and all that…

1865 – The Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution is ratified, banning slavery.

1884 – The Washington Monument in Washington D.C. is completed. The capstone is pure aluminum, which is very rare and expensive in 1884.

1938 – French/German non-attack treaty drawn up. This is the Ribbentrop-Bonnet Pact. It is used as toilet paper two years later.

1998 – Hugo Chávez, Venezuelan military officer and politician, is elected President of Venezuela. You know it was a fair election because Jimmy Carter and the UN said so.
