The Name Game #258

Upper thirties last night. Mid-forties right now. Broken overcast. This is the ‘cool’ phase of winter in southwest Louisiana. Man, the coffee is GOOD this morning!

Opened the paper to find that the big hospital across the river reports thirty-three births, 10 of these two couples that still eschew those tired old mores about family and marriage. In a statistical anomaly, only twonew mommies have decided to go it alone with their precious little ‘gifts’.

Getting on with the getting on this morning, let’s go ahead and start off with the thundering herd:

Jeremiah & Mandy A. channel old westerns to tag their son, little Maverick James.  Or it could be current military hardware, you know…

Oscar & Teresa R. decide that starting a kid’s name off with an “X” is a good idea, so their son is Xander Joseph.  In today’s education environment, at least he’ll be able to START spelling his name…

David & Kayla O. get all poetic with their daughter, little Lainey Jane.  Just rolls off the tongue, doesn’t it?

Armond C. & Patricia R. present their daughter, little Armeka Nevaeh.  “That’s ‘heaven’ spelled backwards, yahknow!?!?!”  “Okay, darlin’!  Try ‘ssabmud’, then…”

In spate of spontaneous geography, Timothy & Elizabeth D. do a daughter, little Brooklyn Leigh.

Michael & Nikki D. get all confused about that daughter-son gender thing and tag their daughter with Peyson Danielle.

Byron & Markeyna (!) N. do a son, little Markel Antonio.

Evans & Chelsea G. give their son on of those manly single-syllable first names, making him Cash Martin.  Presumably to be followed by a daughter, Credit Nicole, don’t you imagine?

Miss Costasia(!) V. does a daughter, little  Mayleyah Araina.

Then there’s the “If we SPELL it different, people will know we’re people of quality”:

Karl C. & Erica M. play with a little spelling and geography so people will know they’re playful AND sophisticated with their new daughter, little Lunden Elizabeth.

Jonathan & Cortney R. tag their son with Jaxson David, because, you know, if you drop the ‘u’ from Momma’s name, swapping ‘x’ for ‘ck’ just sort of makes sense.

It made so much sense that the next day Joshua & Haley G. did it to their son, little Jaxson Layne.

And lastly we have a little sprinkling of punctuation:

Joey & Charlissa(!) W. show their son, little Joshua Dai’len.

Paul C. & Evelyn E. do a triple WITH punctuation (the crappy spelling on punctuated names is a given), presenting their daughter, little Makynle’ Joynce Renne.

And that’s enough for this week…

Today in History – December 11

1941 – World War II: Germany and Italy declare war on the United States. Yeah, that’s the ticket… Germany has its hands full with the USSR and Italy’s last couple of hundred years of military excellence are worse than the French, but with fancier uniforms…

1972
Apollo 17 becomes the sixth mission to land on the Moon, all of them American.
